FAQ

Formatting images

Here are some tips for uploading images to your N2Arts gallery:

  • Images can be in GIF, JPG, and PNG formats.
  • Images should be between 72 and 180 dpi (low to medium resolution)
  • Monitors display files at 72 dpi so 72 dpi usually works just fine
  • Your images should be no wider than 750 pixels and no taller (height) than 1000 pixels.
  • Images should be smaller than 2 megabytes.
  • Remember that the smaller the image size, the faster it will load on people’s computers.
  • Consider cropping your photos to reduce their overall size

Preparing sound files

Here is a guide to preparing sound files for upload to your N2Arts gallery:

  • Sound files should be in MP3 format.
  • Use a 160 kbps Bit Rate for your MP3 files (128 kbps is fine for speech)
  • Select the "Stereo Channel" setting when recording MP3 files
  • There are a number of MP3 software programs for recording your own MP3; visit www.download.com to find an MP3 software recorder that meets your needs.
  • Your MP3 files can be up to 2 megabytes. That means you may have to break your big songs (no illegal song trading please, just your own work) into smaller files.

Preparing video files

If you are planning on including video files, please keep these tips in mind:

  • Video files can be in the QuickTime or AVI format.
  • You can only upload files as large as 2 megabytes. That means larger files should be broken up into smaller pieces.
  • Video files should be saved at low or medium resolution.
  • We recommend an image size of 320x240.
  • The frames per second (fps) should be determined by the type of video
    • Full motion video = 15 fps
    • Less motion = 10 fps
    • Slide show = 1 to 5 fps

Creating PDF and Text Documents

PDF Documents

Adobe Portable Document Format (PDF) is a standard for electronic document distribution. It allows you to share documents without having to worry about what software or hardware your reader is using. PDF documents maintain their formatting and images and are generally virus resistant.

To create a PDF, you will need to use a PDF creator software program. These are available as shareware and as purchased software. We highly recommend that you use the PDF format when posting writing and documents in your gallery.

To find a PDF creation program, please visit www.download.com.

For more information about the PDF format, visit the Adobe Web site at

http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/adobepdf.html

Text Documents

You can turn your Microsoft Word documents into text by simply clicking "Save As" on the file menu and selecting "plain text" from the "save as type" menu. Once you've saved your documents as a text file, it will have a .txt file extension. Go to the upload art/files and select that .txt file you just saved. This will upload the document to your gallery.
